New Fabric, New Sale

My cart piled high, my mind races with ideas and my husband texting wondering how much longer...just a Sunday trip to Joann Fabrics. I almost never go to the fabric store on a weekend but instead during the week when it is less busy and easier to think. However the sale was ending and Sunday was my only opportunity. Thankful my little kiddos were not in toe, just my husband who started off very patient but his hungry belly got the best of him.

In the end I found lots of fun fabric and starting cutting last night. I am excited to debut my new goodies at the first ever Craft-Apple-Ar! Save the date for Sunday August 28th, it will be a super fun event for the entire family. Lapacek's Orchard has amazingly delicious apples, donuts and cider along with animals and kids activities. I will be there with all my Poplin products, maybe even a few new ones.

Craftacular

Hot glue stuck on the counter, little burns on my fingers and thin threads trailed throughout the house, it can only mean one thing...Craftacular this weekend!

This Sunday is the Seventh Annual Summer Craftacular and I get to be part of it. I've been in frantic crafting mode for the past week trying to prepare, cutting, sewing, glueing and creating. Not sure why I seem to leave it all until the end, I have known about this sale for quite a while but somehow the time crunch is making me work faster.

Thankfully my family lives close and has been extremely helpful from wathing my kiddos to giving their creative input on my table display. There is always more you can do, a few more products that could be made but I am trying to stop tonight so I can enjoy the weekend. My craft room is still a disaster but once I get it all packed up I am ready to go!

First Poplin Party

My first Poplin Party was a success. I had a vision in mind but wasn't quite sure how it would all work. The night before my mom, sister and I cleaned, rearranged and set up all the Poplin products. Everything was displayed nicely, cute new signs, fresh fabrics and delicious treats.

Party night was filled with friends, mingling and shopping. Everyone enjoyed chocolate, brownies, strawberries and of course Arnold Palmer. I learned a lot, have new ideas and am excited for the next Poplin Party!

Five Little Monkeys

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Every month EtsyKids has a Design Challenge. The month of May is all about nursery rhymes, letting your imagination run loose as this theme is about Mother Goose. One of my favorite rhymes is "Five Little Monkeys" which inspired this latest creation. Get in touch with your inner child this week!

I am in love with printable parties! Themes, colors and parties are what I love. It is fulfilling to plan, dream and prepare a party. However party planning can get expensive and overwhelming. Printable parties help give me inspiration and direction while keeping the costs of decorations low.

Party for the Pooch

Parties are fun, exciting to plan, filled with joy and delicious treat. This week our pooch, Cabella, turned five. Now before we had kids she was our baby, slept in our bed, had a nice assortment of toys and the finest puppy clothes. Sadly to say that all changed once our two little boys came along and now Bella is at the bottom of the list.

However Trexen (2yrs) and Paceler (1yr) are very close to Bella so I thought a party was in order for this birthday. At first I let my over zealous mind go crazy thinking up fun themes, puppy cakes and party games. In the end I decided that wouldn't be the best use of our money and financial planning so instead I got creative. Everything at the party (except food) were things I had from previous parties or just miscellaneous items.

Bella's party was for sure filled with joy, happiness and amazing treats all for under $50. We had 12 of our family members over, enjoyed each other's company and couldn't get enough of my two little ones dancing and partying all night.

Next time you are looking for something fun, a reason to celebrate, throw a party for your pooch!

What's On

My wonderful husband bought be a small flat screen tv/dvd player for Valentine's Day last year. It is nicely positioned on a shelf in front of my sewing table. When I enter my craft room my mind is on over-drive; dreaming up new creations, prioritizing projects and figuring out where to start. It's extremely rare for me to actually watch the tv but I always put something on for background noise. Almost always "Seinfeld" is the noise of choice. I love Seinfeld and will watch the same episodes over and over.

However yesterday I needed a change. Both my kiddos and myself are battling croup so when I got both boys sleeping at the same time it was shocking. A nap sounded really good but a little time sewing sounded even better. I popped in a "Saved by the Bell" episode and surprisingly finished a baby gift set and started/finished an adorable girly ribbon blankie.

What is your noise of choice?

One of my very good friends who is also one of my best customers gave me the greatest idea. She loves my fabric flower pins and really likes the new hair clips but wouldn't it be cool if you could have it all in one?

Nap Time Project

I get to stay home with my little ones two days each week. They are 2 and 1, extremely active and terrible sleepers. Both had challenging colic for the first year of their life and still hate sleeping. Nap time is hit or miss, never guaranteed but always much needed. If I do get them both in their beds and quiet I tiptoe into my craft room and instantly feel at peace.

A ribbon blankie is the perfect project for nap time. I can usually complete one start to finish before my youngest is awake. My storage shelf is filled with fabric scraps just waiting to be turned into a ribbon blankie. I also love making ribbon blankies because my oldest adores his. He got it on his first birthday and it has been hanging from his mouth ever since. I've tried duplicating it hoping he will attach to a new one but no, it has to be the original.

I love creating ribbon blankies dreaming about the little ones who will be cuddling them!

Vintage Toy Baby Shower

Filled with vintage toys, an old fashion candy shoppe and popcorn machine this Vintage Toy Baby Shower was fantastic. When I first start planning a party I look for a theme or inspiration. I found an amazing vintage toy birthday party and spinned it into a baby shower. My friend and mama to be was extremely appreciative and overwhelmed by all the details (she even cried when she saw the diaper cake, hormones!). I had a blast planning and hosting, enjoy the pictures!

Facebook Likes

The whole "Like" and "Dislike" thing on Facebook is kind of funny to me. I would feel so bad disliking something but on the other hand it is a commitment to say "yes I like this".

However I do love Facebook, how it connects me to others, keeps me current with friends, allows me to share my life and clicking that "Like" button does make me smile.

So now you can LIKE Poplin on Facebook, it will put a smile on your face!

Sneak Peek... Vintage Toy Baby Shower

Parties are in my blood, I love planning and preparing for big celebrations. The theme, decor, menu and favors all get me jazzed. One of my best friends is due with her second baby boy...what a wonderful time to celebrate!

My first order of business when planning a party is the theme. A definitive theme inspires all the rest. For the baby shower I wanted something unique yet with a sense of tradition. My friend tends to lean towards tradition and more muted colors so extremely bright and wild wouldn't fit. During my research I came across a Vintage Toy Baby Shower- PERFECT!

There are lots of websites I surf for inspiration, gather pictures and then make it my own. A few of my favs:
~Kara's Party Ideas
~Party Love
~Hostess with the Mostess

Once I had the theme I purchased editable invites
and started working on games. One of the games is "Vintage Toy Trivia", I came up with the idea and created questions all with the help of Google.

Sample Questions:
How many wagons did Radio Flyer continue to produce every day during the Great Depression?
a. 500
b. 1,000,000
c. 100
d. 1,500

Another name for the slinky is…
a. The Worm
b. Stair Walker
c. Lazy Spring
d. Wiggles

My mother-in-law thankfully loves antiques and vintage treasures so much of the decor come from her. Some simple fabric flags, a trip to a quaint little candy shop and finalizing the menu topped the weekend. Just a few last minutes projects and the Vintage Toy Baby Shower will be all set!

Oh ya, I am also stocking my etsy shop with baby items in case anyone needs a shower gift!
